Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about metadata, privacy, and how Vantre tools work.

What is Vantre?

Vantre is a developer of open-source, on-device privacy tools. Our apps remove hidden metadata from photos and documents entirely on your phone, with no uploads, no tracking, and no account required.

Are Vantre apps really free?

Yes. All Vantre apps are completely free with no ads, no in-app purchases, and no subscriptions. They are also open source, meaning anyone can inspect the code.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Vantre apps require no sign-up, no login, and no personal information. You download the app and start using it immediately.

Do Vantre apps require an internet connection?

No. All processing happens entirely on your device. The apps work without any internet connection and never transmit data to any server.

What is EXIF data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data is a set of metadata tags embedded automatically in digital photo files by cameras and smartphones. It records technical information about how and where a photo was taken, including GPS coordinates, camera model, date, and time.

What is GPS metadata in a photo?

GPS metadata is location information embedded in a photo file. When your phone's location services are active, every photo you take records the exact latitude, longitude, and sometimes altitude where it was captured. Anyone who receives the original file can extract this information.

What metadata is stored in photos?

Photos can contain EXIF, XMP, and IPTC metadata including GPS coordinates, date and time of capture, camera manufacturer and model, lens information, aperture and shutter speed, ISO settings, software used for editing, copyright fields, and embedded thumbnail previews.

Is it safe to share photos without removing metadata?

Sharing photos with metadata intact carries privacy risks. A single photo can reveal your exact location, the device you use, and when the photo was taken. While some social media platforms remove metadata automatically, email, messaging apps, and direct file transfers do not.

Does removing metadata affect image quality?

No. Removing metadata only erases the hidden information tags embedded in the file. The actual image pixels — the visual content of your photo — remain completely unchanged. Your photo will look exactly the same.

How do I remove metadata from a photo on Android?

Install Photo Metadata Remover by Vantre from Google Play. Open the app, select your photo, review the metadata found, and tap remove. A clean copy is saved to your gallery with all metadata erased. No internet connection is needed.

Can I remove metadata from multiple photos at once?

Yes. Vantre's Photo Metadata Remover supports batch processing. You can select multiple photos and remove metadata from all of them in a single operation.

What file formats does Photo Metadata Remover support?

The app currently supports JPEG and PNG image formats. These cover the vast majority of photos taken by smartphones and digital cameras.

Does the app modify my original photos?

No. The app creates a clean copy of each photo with metadata removed. Your original photo files remain untouched in their original location.

What information can someone extract from my photo?

From an unmodified photo, someone can extract your GPS location (potentially your home address), the exact time the photo was taken, your device make and model, camera settings, editing software used, and sometimes your name if the camera or software embeds it.

What is PDF metadata?

PDF metadata includes hidden fields such as the author's name, the software used to create or edit the document, creation and modification timestamps, document title, subject, keywords, and sometimes revision history. This information is invisible when viewing the PDF but is stored in the file.

Why should I care about document metadata?

Document metadata can reveal who created the document, what software they used, and when it was created or edited. In professional, legal, or sensitive contexts, this information can be a privacy or security concern if shared unintentionally.

How do I remove author name from a PDF?

Use Vantre's PDF Metadata Remover app on Android. Open the app, select your PDF file, and tap remove. The app erases all metadata fields including the author name, creation date, and software signatures, then saves a clean copy.

Does removing PDF metadata change the document content?

No. Only the hidden metadata fields are removed. The visible text, images, formatting, and layout of your PDF remain completely unchanged.

How can I verify Vantre apps are safe?

All Vantre apps are open source. The complete source code is publicly available on GitHub. You can audit every line of code, or refer to community reviews. The apps have no internet permissions, which you can verify in your device settings.

Do Vantre apps collect any data?

No. Vantre apps do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data, usage data, analytics, or telemetry. There is no server-side component. The apps have zero network access by design.

What does 'on-device processing' mean?

On-device processing means all file operations happen locally on your phone using your phone's processor and storage. No data is sent to any external server. This eliminates the risk of data breaches, interception, or unauthorized access.

Is Vantre affiliated with any company?

Vantre is an independent developer focused exclusively on privacy tools. We have no parent company, no investors, and no advertising partnerships. Our apps are funded purely through voluntary support.
